In the Elite Women’s race, there were plenty of riders who looked strong with Laura Stigger, Pauline Ferrand Prevot and Puck Pieterse all sharing time at the front during the nine laps. After Jenny Rissveds took the lead on lap seven she would prove to be too much for the chasing riders as she would take the win by two seconds.
In her post-race broadcast interview, Jenny Rissveds said: “I was a little bit insecure when we had four laps to go, I felt strong but I thought the others also felt strong. Then I realized that I was the fastest one through the woods so I just wanted to be in front there when we came it for the last lap and that worked.”
For the Elite Men Luca Schwarzbauer showed his power from the start although he would face some tough competition from Jordan Sarrou throughout the 10 laps. Nino Schurter was hoping for a big result but a crash from XCC World Champion Sam Gaze took him out and ended his chances for a win at home today. Jordan Sarrou led the racers into the final lap but a big attack from Luca Schwarzbauer saw him fly into the lead and cross the line two seconds up on the French rider.
Following the race Luca Schwarzbauer said: “I felt pretty good after Nove Mesto. That was a very satisfying result. Even though I was still struggling with my diaphragm, my shape in general is quite good. I’m speechless, it all goes so fast and is so overwhelming. It’s crazy. I had a perfect lead out on the last lap.”
